Black History Month in Peterborough

Black History Month in Peterborough
Don’t miss these great events celebrating Black History Month
Feb.1– 28, 2019 in Peterborough.

Honouring Ada Lee
Black History Month kicked off earlier in February with a special event honouring the extraordinary musician ADA LEE in a packed ceremony at George St/Emanuel United Church, where she received the Keys to the City from Mayor Diane Therrien in a special ceremony.

City Recognizes Black History Month
This marks the first year the City of Peterborough has officially recognized Black History Month and there is a rich program of activities and events being organized by Black Lives Matter, the Peterborough Race Relations Committee, and others to recognize the struggles of and the contributions made to our community by people of African descent. Black History Month marks an important opportunity to explore hidden/erased histories, resist current oppressions, and celebrate the remarkable artistic talent and cultural vibrancy these folks contribute to this community.
