Monkey Man on the Vinyl Version

With lyrics like I’m a fleabit peanut monkey, All my friends are junkies, That’s not really true ,I’m a cold Italian pizza, I could use a lemon squeezer” They don’t really seem to make much sense. It’s said to be a tribute to Italian singer and actor Mario Schifano, whom they met on a movie set in 1968. Or the lyrics are about coming down off heroin or possibly about a bad acid trip.

Nicky Hopkins played piano and Ian Stewart played the keyboard they both made significant contributions to this song but were never credited with being official members of the group. they even toured with the band.

Most of the album was recorded after the death of Brian Jones but before his replacement Mick Taylor was brought in. The stones were in a bad place recording this song. Keith Richards played lead and slide guitar. Bill Wyman played bass

This song was used in the 1990 movie Goodfellas because the Stones were the favorite band of the film’s director Martin Scorsese.
