We haven’t heard from Jon Stewart in a little while, but he made quite a splash this week. The former host of The Daily Show appeared before a House committee in Washington, D.C., to advocate for health benefits for 9/11 first responders once again. He’s been a strong and vocal proponent of legislation to provide federal funding for medical treatment for survivors- particularly the first responders- of the 9/11 terror attacks.
Earlier this year, the US government said the 9/11 victims compensation fund was running out of cash, so they cut payments by more than half for those who are sick and dying from the toxins released during the attacks.
At the meeting, one side of the room was packed with sick first responders, but many congress members’ seats were empty. Stewart was not afraid to call them out on that, and more.
