The Joker movie, starring Joaquin Phoenix isn’t going to be released until October 4th, despite premiering in the Venice Film Festival this month and the Toronto Film Festival in September, and already the hype has taken off. Joaquin Phoenix has already been rumoured to be nominated for an Oscar for his performance as Arthur Fleck, the “Clown Prince of Crime”.
The movie isn’t based on the comic book material, making it more of an original film … it almost doesn’t even feel like a “comic book” movie at all, which is another reason it’s so intriguing.
Trying to top Heath Ledger’s performance of the Joker in “The Dark Knight” which was released in 2008 is a tall task, but if anyone CAN do it, it’s Joaquin Phoenix. Phoenix apparently put some real research into the role, and used an actual medical condition as inspiration for his Joker. He’d “watched videos of people suffering from pathological laughter,” a rare neurological disorder that causes people to uncontrollably laugh, cry, or both.
… Is it October 4th yet?
