McHappy Day

This year marks the 30th McHappy Day for McDonald’s Canada. It is the company’s longest running and largest charitable initiative with more than 1,400 McDonald’s restaurants celebrating McHappy Day this year, in support of Ronald McDonald House Charities across Canada and other children’s charities.

The impact of RMHC across our communities is far-reaching. Today, 1 in 4 Canadians has either stayed at RMHC or know someone who has. In an average year, the RMHC network of programs in Canada helps to keep more than 26,000 families from over 3,400 Canadian communities close to their sick child and the care they need. The 16 Ronald McDonald Houses provide out-of-town families with a home to stay while their child is being treated at a nearby hospital, while the 18 Ronald McDonald Family Rooms provide a comfortable place for families to rest and recharge, right inside hospitals.

Despite being able to provide 160,000 overnight stays for families in an average year at Ronald McDonald Houses and Family Rooms across Canada, the need continues. Today, RMHC is only meeting 20% of the need for their Services.

Last year alone over 12,000 nights were not accommodated for families due to lack of space.

Each year, more than 3000 families never make it off RMHC waitlists, with an estimated 45,000 Canadian families left without the comfort and support of RMHC. McHappy Day provides critical funding for RMHC to continue to be there for families when they need it most.
