When: Saturday October 25th, 2025
9 am – citizens are asked to leave a bag of non-perishable food items on their front porch to be picked up by our Porch Pirates for Good volunteers.
Where: Across the city of Peterborough
What is it: An essential food drive to restock the shelves at Kawartha Food Share. On Saturday October 25th, neighbours are being asked to leave a bag of non-perishable food items on their front porch at 9am and attach the Porch Pirates flyer (or anything that makes the donation easy to identify.) Volunteer porch pirates will drive around the city and collect the items and deliver them to the KFS warehouse. Keep your eyes peeled for our flyers that are being distributed the week leading up to collection day. In the last 5 years, our pirates have brought in over 185,000 pounds of food and over $20,000 in monetary donations!
Why? The number of clients using food banks across Canada has reached an all-time high. The rising cost of food and supply chain shortages have affected KFS clients, donors and their own purchasing power. The most vulnerable in our community need our support.
Most Needed Items:
· Peanut Butter
· Canned tuna
· Canned vegetables and canned fruit
· Individually wrapped school snacks
· Pasta and pasta sauce
· Breakfast cereal
· Gluten free items – like pasta, cookies, oats etc.
· Canned soup/stew
· Feminine hygiene products
Volunteers will be able to collect cheques made out to Kawartha Food Share during their pickups on October 25th. Monetary donations can also be made online for those unable to participate in the food drive: http://www.kawarthafoodshare.com/donations.html
